On the grounds of the beautiful Powerscourt House and Gardens, the magical miniature world of Tara’s Palace Museum of Childhood is yours to explore. The Museum is home to Ireland’s Largest Period Doll House, Tara’s Palace. Each of the 24 rooms in Tara’s Palace is 1:12 in scale. They are furnished with miniature masterpieces, hand painted ceilings and hand crafted wooden and marble floors.
With Tara’s Palace as the centrepiece, the Museum also contains hundreds of fascinating exhibits, including the amazing 17th century house in a bottle, the smallest doll in the world, and a 300 year old doll’s house. There is a Museum Quiz, which is popular with all visitors and an interactive room for our younger visitors.
Tara’s Palace runs events, family activities, school and group tours and children’s birthday parties throughout the year.
Tara’s Palace Museum of Childhood at Powerscourt House is now taking bookings for Primary and Post Primary school tours.
At Tara’s Palace children will learn more about toys from the past. They will see Ireland’s largest period doll’s house, tiny works of art in miniature, the smallest doll in the world, vintage toy cars and toys dating back 300 years. The children can try our Museum Quiz and have fun in the interactive room playing with toys and/or colouring pictures. All children will receive a prize for entering the quiz. The cost per child is only €3 from which a donation is made to Irish children’s charities. There is no charge for supervisors.
Coach parking is available on site. There is a courtyard area for children to have their picnics. The Avoca Terrace Cafe has a large selection of food including salads, soup, sandwiches, hot meals and delicious cakes and pastries. There are plenty of open spaces for children to explore after their visit and lunch.
